We have a friend called Tim, and when Tim asks you if you'd like to go on holiday with him you know it's going to be an adventure. When Kyrgyzstan was first mooted I have to admit I was reticent, due in no small part to small slightly worrying Home Office warnings and an encouragement from Tim to ensure our travel insurance was extremely comprehensive. Nevertheless, we packed up our rucksacks and boarded a flight to Osh via Istanbul over Easter 2015. We stayed with friends (and friends of friends of friends), ate locally (walnuts, apricots, rice, generic meat based soups), kept showers to a minimum and wore an eclectic mix of culturally sensitive but probably weird clothes. We experienced all the seasons and probably a vast majority of the emotions. It was beautiful and raw and surprising and I would highly recommend a visit.
